Epoxy Garage Floor Coating in Fairfield, CA

Gray and white vinyl chip epoxy garage floor coating in a two-car garage in Fairfield, CA by J&C Concrete

Most Fairfield garage slabs were poured, broom-finished, and forgotten. Ten or twenty summers later they’re dusting, staining under the car, and spidered with hairline cracks that hold dirt no broom will lift. An epoxy garage floor coating seals that porous slab under a hard, cleanable surface. J&C Concrete Restorations has been installing decorative concrete coatings across Solano County and the wider Bay Area since 2014 — vinyl chip epoxy systems, installed by the same small crew that quotes the job. What epoxy garage floor coating involves

An epoxy floor is only as good as the concrete underneath it, so the majority of the labor happens before any resin comes out of the pail. We diamond-grind the slab with walk-behind grinders and dust extraction to open the surface profile and remove whatever is already there — old paint, failed epoxy, sealer, carpet glue, tire-mark residue. Grinding is also how we find out what we’re working with: soft spots, moisture staining, previous patches.

Cracks and spalls get chased out and filled with a rigid patching resin, then ground flush. Control joints are handled deliberately — some are filled and coated over, some are honored so the slab can keep moving.

Then the coating itself. We roll and squeegee a pigmented epoxy base coat and broadcast colored vinyl flakes into it while it’s still wet, to refusal or to a partial-broadcast density depending on the texture you want. Once cured, the excess chip is scraped and vacuumed back and the floor receives clear topcoats that lock the flake in and give the floor its wear surface. The result is slip-resistant, resists stains and impacts, and wipes clean. A standard two-car Fairfield garage is typically a two-day install with cure time before vehicles return. We do not install metallic or mica floor systems — vinyl chip only.

Why J&C Concrete for epoxy garage floors in Fairfield

  • Full mechanical prep, every time. Diamond grinding rather than acid etching, with vacuum extraction, so the epoxy bonds to profiled concrete instead of sitting on a sealed surface.
  • Working since 2014 on decorative concrete throughout Northern California, with a portfolio that runs from Silicon Valley commercial floors to high-end residential work.
  • Principal-involved, small crew. Jose or Carlos is on your job — the person who quoted your garage is the person grinding it.
  • Custom flake blends. Base color and chip blend chosen together, so the floor hides Solano County dust and brake dust instead of showing every speck.
  • We also handle the alternatives. If your slab is too far gone for a coating alone, we install polymer modified overlays that resurface worn slabs — and we’ll tell you when that’s the right call.
  • Referral-based client list and a 5.0 average across 69 Google reviews.

Our epoxy garage floor process

  1. Free on-site estimate. We measure the slab, inspect cracks and joints, check for moisture and prior coatings, and confirm square footage — Fairfield garages vary a lot between older Cordelia-area homes and newer tracts.
  2. Color and flake selection. You pick a base color and chip blend; we show you how each reads under garage lighting.
  3. Clear the slab and mask. Everything comes off the floor. Walls, door tracks, and thresholds get protected.
  4. Diamond grinding. Full-surface profiling with dust extraction, plus edge and corner grinding by hand.
  5. Crack and joint repair. Patching resin into chased cracks and spalls, ground flush; joints filled or honored as the slab requires.
  6. Base coat and flake broadcast. Pigmented epoxy applied with rollers and squeegees, vinyl chip broadcast into the wet resin.
  7. Scrape, vacuum, topcoat. Loose flake removed, clear topcoats applied, then cure time before foot traffic and, later, vehicles.

What epoxy garage floor coating typically costs

Epoxy garage floors in Fairfield are priced per square foot, and the spread between a clean install and a difficult one is wide. The single biggest variable is prep: a sound slab with no prior coating grinds fast, while a floor with failed paint, thick carpet glue, or heavy oil saturation takes considerably more grinding time and consumables. Crack count and severity matter next — a few hairlines is routine, a badly spalled slab is not. After that it’s square footage, flake broadcast density (full broadcast uses far more chip than partial), and the number of clear topcoats.

Moisture in the slab can also change the approach, which is why we check on site rather than quoting from a phone call. What’s included in our number: grinding, crack repair, base coat, flake, topcoats, and cleanup. What’s not: removing built-in cabinets or shelving, or drywall and framing work. Frequently asked questions

How long does garage floor epoxy last?
Service life comes down to prep and topcoat. A properly diamond-ground slab with clear topcoats over the flake holds up for many years of vehicle traffic. Coatings that fail early almost always failed at the bond — applied over a sealed or unprofiled slab, or over an old coating that was never removed.

Can you coat a cracked garage floor?
Usually, yes. We chase cracks open, fill them with a rigid patching resin, and grind flush before coating. If the slab has widespread spalling or major elevation problems, a polymer modified overlay or self-leveling underlayment is the better starting point, and we’ll say so at the estimate.

Do I have to remove old paint or epoxy first?
No — that’s part of the job. Our grinders remove old paint, previous epoxy, sealers, and carpet glue as part of surface prep.

Is a vinyl chip floor slippery?
The flake broadcast creates texture in the surface, so a chip floor is meaningfully less slick than a smooth coating — a real consideration for a garage that gets wet from cars during North Bay winters.

Polished concrete or epoxy — which is better?
For a garage, epoxy chip almost always wins: it seals the slab against oil and de-icer and gives you color. Polished concrete makes more sense for interior living space, showrooms, and warehouse floors — see our commercial concrete polishing work in Solano County for that side of it.

How long before I can park on it?
Foot traffic comes back before vehicles do. We give you exact cure windows for your install at the end of the job, since ambient temperature in Fairfield affects the schedule.
