If you have been putting off coating the garage floor, August is one of the smartest months of the year to finally book the job. In the North Bay, late summer delivers the kind of steady, dry warmth that epoxy resins were essentially designed for — and the difference between a floor cured in ideal conditions and one rushed through a damp shoulder season shows up years later in adhesion, gloss, and edge integrity.
How Epoxy Actually Cures
A garage floor epoxy is not paint. It is a two-part thermoset resin that hardens through a chemical reaction between the resin and the hardener. Temperature and humidity govern how that reaction proceeds. Most industrial-grade epoxies want an ambient and slab temperature roughly between 60°F and 85°F, with relative humidity under about 75 percent, and a concrete surface that is dry through its full depth.
Miss those windows and you invite problems: amine blush from moisture on the surface, pinholing from outgassing, slow cure times that leave the coating soft and prone to tire pickup, or, worst of all, blistering months later when trapped vapor pushes back through the film.

Prep Is Still 80 Percent of the Job
August weather does not rescue bad prep. A durable garage floor coating starts with mechanical profiling — typically diamond grinding — to open the concrete’s pores, followed by crack chasing, spall repair, and a thorough vacuum.
